RESCUE HORSES
We Got Started, Because We Love Horses. We Think Every Horse Deserves A Second Chance. It Doesnt Matter If They Are Old, Abused, Neglected, If You Just Cant Take Care Of Them Any Longer, If They Are Pony Or Horse, Or Even Just A Rouge Horse. They Count On Us As Humans For a Second CHANCE.
"WIMP"
We acquired "Wimp" in August 2002 he was under weight, sway-backed and wormy. He had had an old roping injury in his left shoulder, that the previous owners didnt tend to. They said that there was nothing wrong with him and that he was fine. After a month of chiropractor care, we started getting him in shape again to run barrels. He recovered 100% and picked up all his weight.
When We started Taking Rescues And What We Take In!!!
We started doing equine rescues about 7 years ago. We are not funded by the state of Texas, so everything that cost comes out of our own pockets. We do NOT Take horses that we know we can not take care of, because that would not be right to the horse. Horses Need The Best Of Care To Live A Long And Healthy Life. We do not sale these horses at auction or slaughter. We have people that let us use their land, to keep these horses on. Horses are not adopted out until they are in top shape. All their medical and personal needs are taken care of: teeth floated, de-worming, medical care, triming their hooves, feed twice a day, and all the hay they can eat. We think ALL horses need a second chance at life so we will not turn a horse down UNLESS we can not meet its needs. The horses that are donated DON`T have to be skinny horses. They can be a family pet that you can no longer keep for any reason. We will take companion Only horses or a older horse that you want to retire to pasture or a brood mare you dont want to go to auction. We also take equines with issues, due to fear or trama. We will take any equine from little to big. We dont care about the size they all need homes.
First rescue project
"Beauty"
Our first rescue horse was Beauty, an APHA breeding stock mare. She was 29 months old, and 7 months in foal. You would never think she was bred, due to the fact that you could count all her ribs, and all her bones were apparent. She was barely halter broke, her hooves had never been trimmed. It took us nearly a year to gain her weight and get her into shape, due to the fact she was bred in her growing stage. At the time we accquired her from the sale barn, where she could have met her fate at a slaughter house, she was 14.2 hands tall and grew to be 16.1 hands and 1000 pounds. This mare went on to win a saddle, buckle, and money in open barrel races. We owned her for 6 years, where we then sold her to a 9 year old girl, who won a buckle on her the week following the purchase of her.
